Case study: AOL AIM Pages
When the Web services arm of the world's largest media and communications company needed a giant step forward in social networking, Siteworx came through, helping them to create an interactive, social networking destination for more than 48 million AIM subscribers.
Using the site's publishing tools, users can easily "skin" their own pages with different designs, customize their experience and ensure their page reflects their personality and interests. And because the site is fully integrated with AOL Network features such as IM, users will instantly know when their Buddies update their AIM pages.
Delivering a quality product on a dramatically compressed schedule requires skill, creativity, flexibility and a unique commitment to client service. Siteworx came through, enabling AOL to deliver on their brand promise of easy-to-use capabilities that enrich their customers' online experiences.
The Challenge:
In early-2006, AOL needed a new strategy to win the hearts and minds of its 48 million AIM subscribers. Blogging, photo-sharing, downloading music and videos, had all taken off in a big way, and they needed a "killer app" to wow their subscribers with an entirely new way of thinking about their AIM experience. They also knew that in order to be successful, the product needed to place more power in the users' hands, enabling them to create content and share the full range of their creativity on the Web.The Siteworx Approach:
Integrating multiple Web applications into a common, user-friendly interface that the users themselves could customize and manage would be no small challenge. Siteworx came in to help create the technical framework for the system, helped evaluate hardware and software options and developed the database structures and application programming interfaces that would allow anyone, anywhere in the world to create a module or plug-in that could seamlessly integrate with the platform. Visual and User Interface Designs were also created for more than a dozen modules in the application. The Result:
Within three months, Siteworx released a full suite of tools to support the AIM Pages product. What's more, to support AOL's requirement that the product be "future-proof" Siteworx used open standards and Micro-Formats for the majority of the modules created.Using the site's publishing tools, users can easily "skin" their own pages with different designs, customize their experience and ensure their page reflects their personality and interests.
