The centerpieces of member collaboration are the discussion forums and affinity groups. Alliance members use forums, gated in both directions to email, to discuss topics of general interest. For small workgroups or groups with special interest, Alliance staff use Axiom to create affinity groups--instant collaborative areas with their own subscription list and member-accessible file sharing area, discussion board, and event calendar.
Archives of publications and reports relevant to nonprofit management live in a library of documents. Siteworx automated membership purchase and renewal, created a store for books and reports produced by Alliance, allowed anyone to donate online, and gave Alliance the ability to create instant registration forms with advanced pricing models for conferences and events they host.
The website's immediate success with the organization's members, staff, and the public has made it and Siteworx a cornerstone of Alliance's long-term growth and development strategy.
Design
Alliance came to Siteworx because they knew that their website had the potential to be their most important vehicle for growing their membership and network on a national scale. Visitors came to the website for timely, relevant content and information on the nonprofit world. Alliance members needed ways to collaborate with one another across great distances and over time, and Alliance staff desired administrative controls and information they could use to manage and grow the organization. The premium content in the Members' Only section of the website is the most direct, daily interaction the majority of members have with the organization.Technology
Without depth as well as breadth in development, design, and usability, Alliance knew their ultimate solution would be fractured and inconsistent. Workflows integrated with email notification enable visitors to suggest questions and answers in the FAQ, suggest events for the calendar, and submit job applications to Alliance members and paying visitors who post listings in the nonprofit career bank.
