U.S. News & World Report Website Redesign Earns Siteworx “Official Honoree” Distinction for the 12th Annual Webby Awards

April 22, 2008 -
Reston, VA—The Webby Awards, the leading international honor for the Web, today recognized the U.S. News & World Report website as an Official Honoree, a distinction that recognizes work exhibiting remarkable achievement. Produced by Siteworx, usnews.com utilizes best practices, such as “most viewed” and “most emailed” features to drive traffic and facilitate “stickiness” on the site.

Hailed as the "Oscars of the Internet" by the New York Times, The Webby Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet, including Websites, Interactive Advertising, Online Film & Video, and Mobile Websites. The awards are judged by the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences, a global organization that includes David Bowie, Harvey Weinstein, Arianna Huffington, Matt Groening, Jamie Oliver, Internet inventor Vinton Cerf, and RealNetworks CEO Rob Glaser.

"The Webby Awards honors the outstanding work that is setting the standards for the Internet," said David-Michel Davies, executive director of The Webby Awards. "The U.S. News & World Report Official Honoree selection is a testament to the skill, ingenuity, and vision of its creators.”

“We’re thrilled to share this impressive honor with U.S. News & World Report,” said Patricia Mejia, Siteworx VP of Marketing. “Our team is proud to have met the publication’s challenge to deliver a site that reinforced the U.S. News brand and showcased its popular rankings offerings while also highlighting its news and editorial content.”

Siteworx has created interactive experiences for a wide range of media companies.  The U.S. News & World Report redesign effort required a team well versed in the nuances of news & publishing websites.  From user and interaction design experts to information architects, visual designers and software developers, the Siteworx team leveraged a full range of disciplines, starting first with a deep understanding of U.S. News’ audiences and conducting an in-depth competitive analysis against leading news & publishing sites.

In addition to the creative design, usability analysis and interface design, Siteworx also optimized the site for search engines and provided a streamlined framework that facilitates frequent, timely updates to attract new and repeat visitors and increase visitor time on the site.

The 12th Annual Webby Awards received nearly 10,000 entries from over 60 countries and all 50 states. Out of more than the 10,000 entries submitted, fewer than 15% received this honor and were deemed an Official Honoree.

Further validating the success of the site, Siteworx was also awarded the 2007 Interactive Media Award (IMA) “Best in Class” in the Newspaper Category and the 2007 Summit Marketing Effectiveness Award (MEA) in the category of Consumer Service for the usnews.com redesign. The IMA award focused on its design, usability, innovative technical features, and standards compliance. The Summit MEA competition is based on the premise that the goal of marketing communications is to change, influence or reinforce a target audience’s knowledge, attitudes, or beliefs.
